Dear Friends:

We at JOGA are involved in many educational projects promoting quality education in Orissa, India. Some of the projects are mentioned below. Many more projects are also at the preliminary stage of reviewing. All this information is also available at our above website. We seek your support for these noble projects. As always we appreciate your constructive comments and suggestions. You may contact any of us for further information.

1. Teacher’s Refresher Courses:

Teacher’s Refresher Courses for high school science teachers are one of the high priority projects. Teachers from various schools of particular district attend refresher courses generally held in a college campus. The refresher courses run for three days and cover many areas of science such as physics, chemistry, biology, computer basics and environmental science. We have already organized Refresher Courses in eight districts (Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Khurda, Sundargarh, Jagatsingpur, Dhenkanal, and Balangir) and plan to organize such courses in another 22 districts to cover the whole state. These courses were arranged with the cooperation of the circle inspectors and the college administration where the courses were held. The approximate cost for the course for each district is $1000.00, which includes the three days travel expenses for 100 teachers and also the reimbursement expenses for college faculties who teach the classes. Based on the feedback from the teachers that took the course we have learned that the course has been useful in teaching their classes more effectively.

2. Scholarship for needy and talented students:

JOGA is also organizing talent search examinations for tenth grade students based on objective type questions. Based on his or her performance in the talent search examination, a scholarship of Rs. 1000.00 is given to each student. We have been doing this in Bhadrak and Khurda districts and plan to organize such examinations in other districts.

3. Talking Library for Blind School:

We have planned to establish a talking library in a school for the blind children in Bhubaneswar. This library will contain computers and proper audio equipment with educational cassettes for blind students.
